If you’ve heard some version of that sentence more than once, you know how frustrating it is to be almost right for role after role, close enough to interview, close enough to be considered, but not quite the one who gets the offer.
This is one of the hardest places to be in a job search because it feels like progress without payoff.
And it’s rarely about lack of ability.
Why “almost right” happens so often
In today’s hiring market, employers are cautious. Fewer open roles mean higher stakes, and hiring managers often default to the safest possible choice, someone whose experience feels immediately familiar.
